Philosophy
Another Way provides assistance to individuals with developmental
disabilities to realize their full potential to live and function as
independently as possible in the home of their choice. We support
the individual’s responsibility for making life decisions on the
basis of personal preference and knowledge of life issues. This
individualized approach enhances the prospects for increased
independence, self-reliance, and self esteem.
Service Delivery
Another Way provides a personalized service that supports and
strengthens a persons’ awareness of the community and resources,
provides crisis intervention, minimizes health risks, and links
individuals with their community. Supported Living Professionals (SLPs)
are available 24 hours a day through the Emergency Response System
(ERS).
Independent Living Services
Services include functional skills training necessary to secure a
self-sustaining, independent living situation in the community
and/or may provide the support necessary to maintain those skills.
Training is provided to increase self-sufficiency in the following
core areas:
- Money Management/Budgeting
- Commodity Purchasing
- Mobility/Transportation/Destination Training
- Meal Planning/Meal Preparation/Cooking
- Housekeeping/Laundry
- Personal Health and Hygiene
- Self-Advocacy Training/Facilitation
- Independent Recreation/Participation
- Use of Medical/Dental Services
- Use and Awareness of Community Resources
- Home, Community, and Personal Safety
The goal with Independent Living Services is to teach the
individual to learn to do many of the daily tasks of living on
her/his own requiring less and less assistance.
Supported Living Services
Services under Supported Living consists of providing supports to
the person to live in a home of her/his own. Like in Independent
Living, supports are provided in a multitude of areas, however the
focus is on maintaining a living environment by giving support where
the individual may not be able to learn to manage activities on
her/his own. While more intensive than Independent Living Services,
Supported Living Services provides the individual with an
opportunity to also live independently rather than live in a more
restrictive environment, regardless of ability to learn to perform
necessary tasks for independence.
Another Way staff known as Supported Living Professionals (SLPs)
will assist the individual in completing these tasks through the aid
of the person’s Circle of Support (people involved in the person’s
life). When available, SLPs will facilitate assistance from the
Circle of Support and generic services to reduce dependence upon the
SLP.
