Behavioral Support Services provided by CARES schedules
behavioral support to families caring for individuals with
developmental disabilities. Behavioral Support Services are
tailored to the needs of the individual and family, support
existing behavioral programming, and help maintain placement
in the family home. Services take place in the home and are
currently available in Calaveras, Merced, San Joaquin,
Stanislaus, and Tuolumne Counties.
The goals of CARES are to:
- Support and assist individuals and family members in
identifying services that are consistent with their home
environment
- Develop support plans that reflect the family’s home
lifestyle
- Base services on individual and family needs and initiate
services that encourage involvement of family and community
members
- Effectively intervene during behavioral crises using
strategies that ensure the health and safety of the individual,
staff, and family members
- Deliver support services that protect and promote an
individual’s dignity and in ways that are seen as valuable life
experiences by the individual and family
- Display attitudes and actions in a way that help individuals
reach their highest potential
- Provide behavioral support services that affords the
individual the opportunity to access less restrictive support
options.

Desiree
Clifton
Program Director
Desiree began her professional career working within the social work
field in 2002 by developing employment opportunities for parolees
via a nonprofit community re entry program. Desiree worked in the
capacity of a job developer for one year working in conjunction with
the San Joaquin County Parole Department and other ancillary
agencies throughout San Joaquin County. After one year, the
nonprofit organization was unable to secure ongoing funding and
Desiree transitioned to work for a subsidized child care agency
located in San Joaquin County as a social worker. Desiree worked to
assist low income families secure licensed child care and also
provided ongoing technical assistance through power point
presentations to potential unlicensed child care providers. During
the three years Desiree worked for this agency she obtained her
Bachelor of Science degree in Community Studies. Desiree
transitioned once again to begin working with the Developmentally
Disabled population as a Service Coordinator for Valley Mountain
Regional Center, (VMRC) aligning her goals with the agency
expectation to help individuals achieve their maximum potential.
Desiree worked as a Service Coordinator for VMRC for almost five
years. During her time with VMRC, Desiree obtained her Master of
Arts in Education with an emphasis in Early Childhood Education.
Desiree discovered her passion for working with adults with
developmental disabilities, and chose to further her professional
growth by joining Central Valley Training Center, Inc. in May 2011,
as the Program Director for Another Way and CARES. |
