The goals of CARES are to:

  • Support and assist individuals and family members in identifying services that are consistent with their home environment
  • Develop respite plans that reflect the family’s home lifestyle
  • Base services on individual and family needs and initiate services that encourage involvement of family and community members
  • Effectively intervene during behavioral crises using strategies that ensure the health and safety of the individual, staff, and family members
  • Deliver respite services that protect and promote an individual’s dignity and in ways that are seen as valuable life experiences by the individual and family
  • Display attitudes and actions in a way that help individuals reach their highest potential
  • Provide behavioral respite services that affords the individual the opportunity to access less restrictive respite options
  Cheryl Burns
Program Director

Cheryl developed a passion for helping others early on, leading her to many fulfilling experiences in the human service field. She attended University of the Pacific to obtain her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology with a concentration in child development in May of 2005. While earning her degree, she became diversified within the field, leading her to become involved with a camp respite for children and adults with severe disabilities. Cheryl’s enthusiasm and devotion to others in need of support has led her to accept the position of Program Director for Another Way at Central Valley Training Center in July of 2009. When Cheryl has free time, she enjoys time with friends and family, cooking, and being outdoors with her husband.
