Fresno East
Walls Free Services Are Here!

Fresno East has implemented its Walls-Free program starting June 1, 2010. Participants in this portion of the program start their day at a community-based location, participate in community-based activities throughout the day, and return home from the community. Activities that participants engage in include volunteerism and employment training, utilization of public services such as public transportation, social events, sporting events, and other activities that promote the use of social skills in a community setting. This type of service provided an increased opportunity to practice social and employment skills in real-world settings.

Outings in the community

Transportation Training

Thank you Clovis Stageline!

Trainers from the City of Clovis brought a Stageline bus to the Fresno East facility on March 16th to provide training for consumers and instructors on the safety rules and procedures for accessing the bus for our community integration activities. While on the bus, trainers Janells and Tammy explained to the consumers and staff the rules and reasons behind the rules as well as different features of the bus (e.g., emergency exits, seat belts, wheelchair tie-downs, etc.).

Volunteerism and Employment Training
Participants are volunteering weekly at the Valley Animal Shelter. While assigned to groom and provide needed attention and love to cats in search of a new home, participants are gaining valuable work skills.

Twice a week, participants volunteer their time at Wesley United Methodist Church on E. Barstow. Participants complete landscaping duties such as watering plants, removing cobwebs, sweeping sidewalks and patio areas, picking up trash, wiping chairs, and cleaning tables. The church also has the Pink Cow Thrift Store and participants volunteer by sorting, cleaning and washing items, boxing items that are damaged, hanging clothes, and using a steamer to remove wrinkles from clothing. CVTC Fresno East thanks Wesley Unitied Methodist Church for providing volunteer opportunities for participants of the program and offering real-world, hands-on learning of employment-related skills.

Clovis Best Buy
Employment opportunity at the Clovis Best Buy. CVTC Fresno East consumers have a paid employment opportunity of janitorial services at the Clovis Best Buy, six days per week.
