Tonia began her career with Central Valley Training Center, (CVTC) in 2010 as an Instructor On-Call substitute. Over the years she has had the opportunity to serve in several different positions, due to promotions. Tonia is now the Program Director of the Merced site and takes pride in leading her team in carrying out Central Valley Training Centers mission in supporting people in achieving their potential.
As a child Tonia’s grandmother was a Direct Service Provider and lived on a 3-acre residential and Day activity facility called Sarah Center. With her grandmother having an apartment within the facility she had the chance to interact with individuals with disabilities at an early age. As California moved away from large facility-based services her grandmother became an ILS provider for the same company and Tonia would travel from apartment to apartment with her grandmother as she supported her clients.
Tonia remembers never feeling like her grandmother was working because the people that she served became extended family, who would often come to her family home for the holidays. Serving people with disabilities is not job, but a vital part of Tonia’s life and always has been. Through every participants achievement, she is rewarded knowing that the support the team provides on a daily basis improves the quality of life for participants
